New Vision For Transport In Calderdale
A vision for transport in Calderdale for the next 20 years is to be considered by councillors next week (June 21). Members of Calderdale Council’s Cabinet will be asked to endorse the outline transport strategy, which has been proposed by the Transport Issues Working Group.
The cross-party group of elected members, has been producing the outline strategy following extensive consultation, including:
- an open debate last summer where Calderdale residents were able to comment on transport issues
- a stakeholder workshop, where representatives from bus and rail companies and local transport groups were able to give their views
Members and officers have been involved in devising the outline strategy to ensure that it is realistic and deliverable.
The document presents a vision for transport in Calderdale where everything is:
- connected
- high quality
- reliable
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member, Cllr Barry Collins, says: “This is the start of our 20-year journey. It’s Calderdale’s way to a sustainable transport future. And we’re determined to make a start – despite the recession.
“The first, basic step will be to do more with the road and rail infrastructure we already have, bringing forward imaginative, low-cost improvements, however small and wherever possible.
“But as the economy recovers, we’ll also be working hard, with our partners, to select and develop the longer-term projects that will give Calderdale the transport network it deserves”.
