New Leisure Schemes In Sowerby Bridge

Calderdale suppliers have already secured £600,000 worth of business to help build the new leisure facilities in Brighouse and Sowerby Bridge.

A number of local companies ranging from roofing contractors to surveyors have been selected to work on the projects which will see new state of the art leisure facilities open in both towns next year.

Councillor Ian Cooper, Cabinet Member for Safer and Stronger Communities said:
“It is great to see both facilities take shape and they will be a welcome addition to both towns.

“The Council is committed to delivering healthier communities and investing in Calderdale and I look forward to the new leisure facilities being enjoyed by residents of all ages when they open next year.”
The value of contractors procured to date located within a 15 mile radius of each site is 86% and many of those located outside of the area employ people who live in Calderdale.

Councillor Amanda Byrne, Cabinet Member for Economy and Environment said:
“The Council are committed to ensuring that local companies have the opportunity to take advantage of any developments taking place in Calderdale.

It is important that we do all we can to support local businesses during the current economic downturn and I look forward to other local suppliers winning contracts for both these and other developments in the future.”

David Garbiak, Financial Director for Elland based Thistle Roofing Services Limited, who have secured a contract with Willmott Dixon, said:

“The Council is to be congratulated for encouraging the involvement of Calderdale businesses. We are pleased to have been selected by Willmott Dixon for this project and always work to the high standards they demand.”

Mark Pheasey, Operations Director for the main contractor, Willmott Dixon said:
“As the main contractor for both developments we fully support the Council’s initiative to use local suppliers wherever possible, and have already highlighted other local businesses to work on the projects in the future.”

The new leisure facilities include a 25 metre main pool, learner pool, fitness studio and multi purpose room. The Brighouse complex is being built in Wellholme Park and due to open in October 2010 and the Sowerby Bridge facility is due to open in November 2010 and is being built on the former market site on Station Road.
