Library Joins Incredible Edible Growing Scheme

A community herb garden has taken root at Hebden Bridge Library as part of Calderdale’s Incredible Edible growing scheme. Herbs including mint, dill, sage, basil, marjoram and thyme, as well as lettuce and broccoli, have been planted in the courtyard of the new library.

Library users can simply pick a few to take home under the new scheme, which is encouraging people all over Calderdale to start growing their own fruit and veg.

The growing frenzy began with Incredible Edible Todmorden, a highly successful scheme which has seen fruit and veg springing up across the town and surrounding area.

Calderdale Council is now extending the scheme across the borough. Herbs have been planted in Halifax town centre and will be introduced in other towns. The council has also agreed ground-breaking proposals which will free up council-owned land for community groups to grow their own produce.
