Brighouse Civic Hall Refurbishment 2009

Get your first glimpse of the £1 million refurbishment of Brighouse Civic Hall, including Calderdale Council’s brand new Customer First office, when it opens for business on Monday 13th July.

Customer First is a ‘one-stop-shop’ offering help and advice on a wide range of council-related services including benefits, council tax and social services. A dedicated Customer Service team will be on hand to answer queries ranging from waste collections to parking permits; bus passes to pest control. There will also be a customer access point where people can report issues online, or using a free direct phone hotline.

The Customer First office is part of a £1million refurbishment of the Bradford Road site. The scheme will bring substantial improvements to the Civic Hall, including a new kitchen and toilets, a new lift and redecoration throughout. Local groups who stage performances at the hall will also benefit from much improved dressing rooms, a costume store and rehearsal space.

Councillor Ian Cooper, the council’s cabinet member for Community Services, said:-

“This new office builds on the success of Customer First in Todmorden, and is set to provide a first class service to the Lower Valley. This is part of our wider investment in fantastic new facilities for Brighouse, including a brand new swimming pool and the refurbishment last autumn of Brighouse Library and The Smith Art Gallery.”

The Customer First Centre will be open: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am to 5pm; Thursday from 9am to 6pm and Saturday 9.30am to 12.30pm. Services offered at the centre include:

  • Help with housing benefit, council tax benefit and free school meals
  • View plans for local developments
  • Apply for disabled car parking badges and residents’ parking permits
  • Report issues like blocked drains and dangerous trees
  • Request fridge/freezer collection
  • Make council tax, business rates, Pennine Housing and Yorkshire Water payments
  • Book appointments at specialist council surgeries.
