Blueprint For Redevelopment In Sowerby Bridge
Councillors will next week decide whether to move forward with a blueprint that will guide the redevelopment of part of Sowerby Bridge. The Holmes Road supplementary planning document will outline how that area could be redevelop, identify various planning issues and concerns and providing advice on how this can be tackled.
The document makes up phase two of the Transformational Project for Sowerby Bridge. Phase one will see the redevelopment of land between Stearne Mill and Mearclough and will create new homes, businesses and open space.
Once phase one has been completed a new access route will open up land to Holmes Road for private developers. The supplementary planning document for the area will help to guide potential developers.
Members of the Cabinet will decide next week (Monday, February 1) whether that document should go to the next stage of public consultation.
Plans have already been displayed in Sowerby Bridge Library and the next phase will include incorporating information on the Council’s website, placing copies in various public buildings, sending emails and letters to all stakeholders, presenting the information at ward forums and advertising in the press.
Councillor Amanda Byrne, portfolio holder for Economy and Environment, said:
“The main objective of this project is to extend the centre of Sowerby Bridge south by improving links between the existing centre and the railway station.
“This is a really exciting development and we are keen to continue working closely with the people who live and work in the area.”
