A Greener And Cleaner Calderdale

Dec

2009
Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council

Street cleansing, parks and grounds maintenance and countryside services at Calderdale Council are to be restructured following a comprehensive review of the service. Members of the Council’s Cabinet committee last night agreed to proposals which will result in these high profile front line services achieving greater:

  • local accountability and improved links to local communities
  • flexible more efficient and effective use of resources
  • multi skilled workforce with clear career progression
  • reduced bureaucracy
  • stronger local leadership.

Councillor Ian Cooper, Cabinet Member for Safer and Stronger communities said:

“Calderdale residents have identified street cleansing as one of the key aspects of making somewhere a good place to live and these proposals provide the opportunity to deliver a more bespoke customer focused service.

We have a fantastic natural landscape in Calderdale and we have the opportunity to improve the environment by delivering cleaner streets, improving maintenance standards and delivering swifter action to tackle fly tipping and graffiti.”

The redesign of the service has been undertaken as part of the Council ’s ‘Better Working:Better Services’ and ‘Going Local’ initiatives and informal consultation with staff is already taking place.

The plan now is for the proposals to be in place by April 2010.
